SHINY THING$ 0156 ✨
A (not so) shiny thing..
Over the past half-decade at Rally with more than $100M in collectible transactions, we have cultivated deep, lasting partnerships with leading collectors, museums, premier auction houses, and the most influential figures across nearly every category of collectibles.
These relationships have enabled us to source and curate an offering that is truly unparalleled in its scope and significance - and its coming to the platform and New York City this holiday season.
For now, we’re calling it “BCQ 24,” and in a couple of short weeks, you’ll know why. But we wanted to use this week’s Shiny Thing$, the 156th installment, to preview the origin of what could turn out to be one of the most significant dinosaur skeletons in modern history.
Earlier this year, the team at Rally was presented an opportunity to securitize one of the rarest pre-historic assets known to exist - a complete Stegosaurus Skeleton - while the specimen was still being excavated from the ground.
Once the initial evidence of a potential Stegosaurus was discovered in this particular plot of land late 2023, work began to dig and catalogue as much of the skeleton as possible from a matrix composed of fine clastic material, sands and clays. Now, nearly a year later, both Rally and the excavation team are confident that this particular specimen has the chance to be one of the premier Stegosaurus skeletons in existence.
To date, nearly 65% of the total bone has been recovered. While the dig site is currently closed for the winter months, the bulk of the remaining bone-rich dig area has been carefully removed and the excavation continues in our dig team’s temperature-controlled lab. The recovered skeleton's elements are of excellent quality overall, exhibiting nice detail, solid outer surfaces, and a natural dark brown patina - far from a “Shiny Thing,” but once completed and mounted will certainly grab more attention than any diamond in the room.
This opportunity is unique, as we have the ability to launch an offering at an IPO price reflecting the current recovery of approximately 65% of the skeleton, with a strong likelihood of increasing that figure to 75% or more based on excavation team estimates. For context, museum skeletons typically range from 40% bone on the low end, to 80% on the very high end. The most expensive dinosaur ever sold (Apex the Stegosaurus) was just over 79% bone volume, and sold for $44.6M.
Achieving the high-end of total bone would position the Rally steg as one of the most complete and pristine Stegosaurus skeletons of all time.
So what happens next?
Within the next 14 days, you’ll start seeing the Rally Stegosaurus in app marked to the current total recovered skeleton value while the excavation continues.
And around the holidays here in New York, dinosaurs are taking over downtown... 👀
Until Next Week…
